A FESTIVE REPEAT for SHAUN THE SHEEP and those Naughty Llamas!!

Voice Actor SEAN CONNOLLY celebrates as Aardman's 'SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE FARMER'S LLAMAS' gets a CHRISTMAS DAY REPEAT ...

Great NEWES! AARDMAN ANIMATION'S 'SHAUN THE SHEEP' Christmas Special 'THE FARMER'S LLAMAS' is to receive a second outing this Christmas.

Following on from last years smash screening on Boxing Day, I am delighted and more than a bit chuffed to announce that this year the half hour special gets the CHRISTMAS DAY slot on BBC 1 at 1.20PM just before the traditional 'TOP OF THE POPS' .. A wonderful time for all the family to enjoy once again the Lllama Drama centering on (below - from left to right) Fernando, Hector (played by yours truly) and Raul.

There is also another opportunity to see 'THE FARMER'S LLAMA'S' later on CHRISTMAS DAY at 5.40PM on CBBC ...

If you didn't get to see it last year then make sure you tune in on CHRISTMAS DAY. As I said last year ...

REMEMBER A LLAMA IS NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS!!

PAL ARON and SACHA DHAWAN complete the cast of AMANDA WHIITINGTON'S radio play 'BOLLYWOOD JANE' ...

So when's it on ..? Well the first of the 5 EPISODES went out this afternoon on BBC RADIO 4 EXTRA but is instantly available on the BBC iPLAYER RADIO, the rest of the 15 MINUTE DRAMA instalments coming on Tuesday through to Friday of this week at 2.30PM and 2.30AM daily. WHEN WE MET A ROBOT! Ex-Kraftwerk Member Wolfgang Flur.

SEAN CONNOLLY and brother BRIAN meeting Original Kraftwerk member WOLFGANG FLUR at the inaugural SEVENTH WAVE FESTIVAL OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC in Birmingham ...

Remember that old saying about being wary of meeting your heroes ..? Well I'm glad to report that I needn't have worried when my brother and I had the opportunity to meet and see ex-Kraftwerk member WOLFGANG FLUR play 'live' ... he was as delightful 'in person' as he was on stage.

The occasion was the very first SEVENTH WAVE FESTIVAL OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC held in Birmingham this last weekend, organised by CHRIS WAVE.

Wolfgang was one of the ORIGINAL LINE UP OF GERMAN ELECTRONIC MUSIC PIONEERS KRAFTWERK! in their classic period from 1973 - 1987.

Although leaving the group in 1987, after an understandable hiatus, he has been working as a solo artist for nearly 20 YEARS! This culminated with last years release entitled 'ELOQUENCE: COMPLETE WORKS' which rather unsurprisingly covers his solo work to date.

Ex-KRAFTWERK member WOLFGANG FLUR plays to the crowd at The Flapper in Birmingham as part of The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music ...

The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music was a celebration of all things 'ELECTRONIC', combining live performances at different venues around the city with a conference considering 'the past, present and future of electronic music'. Wolfgang lead the charge with a stellar performance on the Friday night, as well as being a very entertaining speaker at the Saturday conference. Following on from Wolfgang, the impressive list of speakers included ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK (OMD) lead singer ANDY McCLUSKEY who gave a thought provoking analysis of the theme of the day as well as giving us a fascinating insight into what makes OMD tick, in a career spanning nearly 40 YEARS!

Another fascinating speaker was synthesizer player, keyboardist and composer, RICHARD BARBIERI. Richard is perhaps best known as a member of one of my favourite synth bands JAPAN, a real treat to hear him talk about the old days as well his continuing career in music.

The day was brought to a close by the hugely entertaining ex RICH KIDS, SKIDS and VISAGE drummer RUSTY EGAN and so much besides. He created the musical backdrop to the New Romantic Movement through his DJ-ING at the renowned BLITZ CLUB where he brought the likes of KRAFTWERK, YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA, ULTRAVOX and BRIAN ENO to the British Club Scene. Nowadays he fully embraces the internet, still DJ-ING, still searching and connecting with the 'next big thing' in electronic music on his regular internet radio show 'THE ELECTRONIC FAMILY TREE'. He releases his very first solo album 'Rusty Egan Presents…Welcome To The Dancefloor' very soon. He's a real force of nature and certainly ended proceedings with a bang!

All in all, the first year of The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music was a roaring success, here's looking forward to NUMBER TWO, which has has already been announced for next year, details of which are on it's website, (link above) ...

It was a wonderful weekend meeting a true living legend of electronic music, made even more special when he turned out to be a charming and very funny guest speaker.

What's next ...? Well I'm very fortunate to have grabbed tickets to see the current line up of KRAFTWERK playing live at the SOLD OUT - BIRMINGHAM'S SYMPHONY HALL on JUNE 13TH 2017 ..

The Circle of Life: Going back to Drama School 30 years on!!

Actor and Voice Artist Sean Connolly outside his old drama school BSA (Birmingham School of Acting) about to embark on teaching Radio Drama ...

I am more than a little delighted to announce that I began teaching Radio Drama at my old drama school yesterday, the Birmingham School of Acting ...

In the lead up to my first day, it had not escaped my notice that it was nearly 30 YEARS AGO TO THE DAY that I started MY training at the then lengthier named Birmingham School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art, back in 1986 ...

Well several name changes and site moves later, I arrived at the snappier titled BSA to teach the YEAR 2 Acting BA (Hons) students all about the dark arts of radio drama!

The building may have changed but the atmosphere inside seemed familiar and although this time I was there to teach, I really did 'almost' feel like a drama student all over again!!

I am happy to report that the young actors I worked with yesterday were all very keen to learn a brand new discipline for them ...

I'm really looking forward to sharing the knowledge I have acquired over the last 27 years ...

There was also that awful moment in class yesterday, realising that when I started my training in 1986, none of them had even been born ... Circle of Life PA!!!!!

'DOCTOR WHO' connections in 'PATHFINDER LEGENDS' Series 3 ...

Some of the guest stars for 'PATHFINDER LEGENDS' Series 3; Sean Connolly, Nisha Nayar and Aaron Neil ...

Once again I've just had the privilege of recording another episode of 'PATHFINDER LEGENDS' for BIG FINISH PRODUCTIONS at the wonderful SOUNDHOUSE STUDIOS in London ...

Rather joyfully this time I had the opportunity to reprise a character from earlier in this series ... perhaps I should explain. Rather like SEAN BEAN, I do seem to have an unerring ability to be cast in audio roles that die in that episode, well not this time ... I'm back!! At this time, I'm not at liberty to divulge the nature or name of my role, but it is rather excellent. More news to come when I'm allowed ...

This time it was not only great to work with the four main characters played by Stewart Alexander, Kerry Skinner, Trevor Littledale and Ian Brooker but this time crossed swords (is this a clue, probably not?!) with the likes of NISHA NAYAR and AARON NEIL ...

Nisha has had a distinguished career but perhaps she is best known for high profile TV appearances in 'OUT OF HOURS' (which my lovely actress wife BELLA HAMBLIN also appeared in), 'LAW AND ORDER', 'THE BUDDHA OF SURBURBIA', 5 series of 'THE STORY OF TRACEY BEAKER' and 'DOCTOR WHO - BAD WOLF' with the NINTH DOCTOR CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON ... She also appeared in the Oscar Nominated film 'IN AMERICA' ... I also discovered that we have a BIG FINISH connection, as she appeared in the recent 'CLASSIC DOCTORS, NEW MONSTERS VOLUME 01' release 'HARVEST OF THE SYCORAX' alongside my own appearance in the boxset ... 'THE SONTARAN ORDEAL'.

Aaron also has some very impressive credits including; 'TRACEY ULLMAN'S SHOW', 'PEAKY BLINDERS' and last years 'DOCTOR WHO - THE MAGICIAN'S APPRENTICE' opposite PETER CAPALDI the TWELFTH and current DOCTOR as well as the very imminent 'DOCTOR WHO' teenage spin-off 'CLASS' which airs on BBC 3 on October 22nd.

In the studio with (from left to right) Kerry Skinner, Nisha Nayar, Sean Connolly and Stewart Alexander ...

Hopefully I'll be able to share some release news soon. It promises to be a fantastic Series 3 ...

Series 3 of the adventures based on the Role Playing Game 'PATHFINDERS' was directed by JOHN AINSWORTH and written by DAVID BRYHER and is produced by BIG FINISH for Paizo ...

Happy 40th Birthday to Aardman Animations ...

Aardman Animations voice actor SEAN CONNOLLY celebrates their 40th Birthday with some cherished friends ...

Today sees the 40th Anniversary of Aardman Animations, so I thought it would be fun to reflect on my own personal 16 year history with the Oscar Winning company ...

Well it all started in the new Millennia (2000) when I first worked with Aardman on their Claymation Cult Classic 'REX THE RUNT' when I was lucky to be asked to voice over 30 characters for it's second season ... Here's a little selection of the characters I played ..

Aardman Animations voice actor SEAN CONNOLLY looks back at where it all started with 'REX THE RUNT' in 2000 ...

There was then a 'small' hiatus until I was thrilled to be asked to provide about 10 human characters in the OSCAR-NOMINATED feature film 'SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE' ... Here's most of them!!

Aardman Animations voice actor SEAN CONNOLLY looks back at his involvement in the Oscar-Nominated 'SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE' ...

Then last year I was thrilled to return to AARDMAN to play ONLY ONE CHARACTER, rather than my normal host of characters!! This time it was to be the very first TV CHRISTMAS SPECIAL for 'SHAUN THE SHEEP' called 'THE FARMER'S LLAMAS' where I voiced HEAD LLAMA HECTOR ... It was transmitted on Boxing Day 2015 on BBC 1, quite an honour!!

Aardman Animations voice actor SEAN CONNOLLY remembers last Christmas' 'SHAUN THE SHEEP' special 'THE FARMER'S LLAMAS' ...

Some fantastic memories with AARDMAN over the years, let's hope there's some more, you never know. I've loved every minute of the ride so far!!

Feature film 'BROKENHEAD' completes final stage of principle photography ...

Sean Connolly as Stefan in a scene from the feature film 'BROKENHEAD' ...

We were blessed with magnificent weather for the final phase of principle photography at Spurn Point on the Humber Estuary at the end of July ...

The cast on PHASE FOUR of 'BROKENHEAD' tripled with the additions of BARRETT ROBERTSON and IAN BROOKER, bringing their not inconsiderable talents to the film.

Filming at the base of the lighthouse at Spurn Point with actors Sean Connolly, Ian Brooker and Barrett Robertson with director and writer Steve Rainbow looking on ...

Director and writer of 'BROKENHEAD' Steve Rainbow on location at the Spurn Point Lighthouse ...

We weren't just filming at the lighthouse, much was done on the beach itself ... A VERY hot weekend, where umbrellas were definitely the order of the day!! Quite a back drop too as you can see!

Filming for 'BROKENHEAD' on the beach at Spurn Point, Humber Estuary ...

Once again the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust were an amazing support with their 'UNIMOG' multi-terrain vehicle to get the cast, crew, our kit and of course our boat over to the lighthouse.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's 'UNIMOG' vehicle being loaded for a days filming on 'BROKENHEAD' ...

A great weekend with extremely early starts but very much worth it. The actors and the great crew all pulled together to get through what was a punishing schedule ... An added bonus was, that I think I lost about half a stone in sweat, wearing a tea shirt, aran jumper and winter jacket in sweltering temperatures! Now to the edit!!

The cover of one the adventures included in 'DOCTOR WHO: CLASSIC DOCTORS, NEW MONSTERS VOLUME 1' - 'THE SONTARAN ORDEAL'
OUT TODAY! Almost 10 years to the day that I first worked with BIG FINISH, comes the much anticipated release of 'DOCTOR WHO: CLASSIC DOCTORS, NEW MONSTERS VOLUME 1'...

Sontaran brethren; 'THE YOUNG ONES' actor Christopher Ryan and Sean Connolly ...

I play ambitious Sontaran ENSIGN STIPE alongside 'THE YOUNG ONE'S' star CHRISTOPHER RYAN playing Sontaran GENERAL STENK (see above) in the FOURTH ADVENTURE of the Box-Set called 'THE SONTARAN ORDEAL'.

The wonderful cast includes 'BLAKES 7's actress JOSETTE SIMON as SARANA TEEL and new era #DoctorWho Sontaran, DAN STARKEY as JASK with PAUL McGANN as the 8th DOCTOR ...

Director is BARNABY EDWARDS across all FOUR ADVENTURES in the BOX-SET and writer for 'THE SONTARAN ORDEAL' is ANDREW SMITH ...

For other posts about my work with BIG FINISH including that VERY FIRST ADVENTURE I recorded back on the 31st JULY 2006, called 'I, DAVROS', where I ended up playing the BIOLOGICAL FATHER of DAVROS, hence laying my claim to the title of 'GRANDFATHER OF THE DALEKS' ... please CLICK HERE ... It's been a great decade of mostly 'DOCTOR WHO' related work ... SONTAR-HA!

'AUGMENTAL' film teaser with Erica Nockalls is 'wonderful stuff' ..!!

Sean Connolly with Erica Nockalls, violinist, vocalist and songwriter from The Wonder Stuff, on the set of the 'proof-of-concept' teaser trailer for the feature film 'Augmental' ...

'AUGMENTAL' is the first feature being produced from the recently formed BFilm Micro, a Micro-Budget Digital Film Studio and Talent Development Hub based in Birmingham ...

#Augmental is directed by double BAFTA and RTS Award winner MICHAEL BAIG-CLIFFORD ... The story itself is still rather hush-hush but if the teaser is anything to go by, then we have quite a journey ahead of us all!! I can't divulge my particular role in the film quite yet but rest assured there will be more news to come ... Fantastic to work with the multi-talented ERICA NOCKALLS ... Exciting times!!

Sean joins Glorious Ninth Sontaran Battle Fleet in new Big Finish audio adventure - 'SONTAR-HA!'

Great news! 'DOCTOR WHO: CLASSIC DOCTORS, NEW MONSTERS VOLUME 1' from BIG FINISH is COMING VERY SOON ... in fact THIS MONTH ...

The trailer has just been released for this FOUR ADVENTURE BOX SET featuring Classic Doctors; Peter Davison (5th Doctor), Colin Baker (6th Doctor), Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor) and Paul McGann (8th Doctor) meeting New Era Monsters such as The Weeping Angels, The Judoon, The Sycorax and The Sontarans ...

I play a rather fiery (is there any other kind!), ambitious SONTARAN called ENSIGN STIPE in the FOURTH ADVENTURE of the Box-Set called 'Doctor Who: Classic Doctors - New Monsters - The Sontaran Ordeal'.

Director BARNABY EDWARDS has assembled an impressive cast to support PAUL McGANN'S 8th DOCTOR with 'THE YOUNG ONE'S' star CHRISTOPHER RYAN playing Sontaran GENERAL STENK, 'BLAKES 7's JOSETTE SIMON as SARANA TEEL and television's 'GO TO' 'DOCTOR WHO' Sontaran, DAN STARKEY as JASK ...

Click here to go to my previous post about 'The Sontaran Ordeal' ...

It has been written by 'THE FIRST SONTARANS' writer ANDREW SMITH, who remarkably, as a 19 year old also wrote the TOM BAKER (4th Doctor) 4-part television story 'FULL CIRCLE' back in 1980.

'FULL CIRCLE' featured LALLA WARD as ROMANA (above) and the very first appearance of MATTHEW WATERHOUSE as ADRIC (above) as well as THE MARSHMEN (below) ...

So clearly 'The Sontaran Ordeal' has a very good pedigree with Andrew on writing duties. I can't wait to hear the outcome when it's released in a matter of weeks. "SONTAR-HA!"

Beyond the Mud! - "Cracked Glastonbury" music doc from 2004 ...

It seemed appropriate during Glastonbury weekend 2016 to share this fantastic film made by award-winning filmmaker MARK PRESSDEE and JAMES EASTOPE ...

You might recognise the ever so slightly Alan 'Fluff' Freeman style VOICE OVER ... "NOT 'ALF!"!!

Made back in 2004, it tells the story of Brummie band CRACKED ACTORS as they head to the Glastonbury Festival for the first time ... There's the usual stories of traffic cues, tent building and the now obligatory mud. There is also the fantastic soundtrack which really showcases the bands brilliant Ska/Reggae fusion brand of music.

It's a fantastic film, so glad to have been a part of it, well done to Mark and James!

Off to the seaside as BBC Radio Drama 'SKEGGY' gets a welcome repeat ...

Chris Thompson's touching radio play 'Skeggy' is repeated on BBC Radio 4 Extra

A radio play I recorded over fifteen years ago is receiving a very welcome repeat on BBC Radio 4 Extra ... 'SKEGGY' written by CHRIS THOMPSON and directed by PETER LESLIE WILD, tells the story of three couples having very different reasons for heading to the Lincolnshire seaside resort of Skegness. To listen to the 45 minute play on the BBC's Radio iPlayer CLICK HERE until July 22nd ...

The cast list for 'SKEGGY' is as follows:

Norman Bird is Charlie
Joyce Gibbs is Sheila
Sean Connolly is Dave
Susan Brooke is Marie
Laura Chambers is Lauren
Alison Carney is Jane
Tom Knight is Martin
Veda Warwick is Mrs Adams

Peter Leslie Wild assembled a really lovely cast for 'SKEGGY'. The extra special treat for me (apart from working with good friends) was the chance to work with the late British TV and Film legend NORMAN BIRD ...

You'd be hard pressed to name a popular television programme that he didn't appear in ... An extraordinary amount of film credits too over a career spanning over FOUR DECADES. The pictures above represent a small number of his screen appearances (from left to right) Bird in Cash on Demand (1961) with Peter Cushing, Eddie the Farmhand in the British classic 'Whistle Down the Wind' (1961), voicing Bilbo Baggins in the animated version of 'The Lord Of The Rings' (1978) and perhaps most famously he played farmer Mr Braithwaite in the classic television series 'Worzel Gummidge' (1979-81). But many will also remember his appearance as Mr. Arrad in the classic 'Waldorf Salad' episode of 'Fawlty Towers' ...

Norman Bird was born on October 30th 1924 and sadly died on April 22th 2005 ... A quote from The Guardian obituary described him as "The man in the cardigan." and provided, as the Encyclopaedia of British Film put it, "a wonderful gallery of under-achievers"

It was privilege and an honour to spend a few days in his company!!

Next generation of Voice Actors learn the tricks of the trade ...

Birmingham voice artist Sean Connolly with Year 12 Acting students from the Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) ...

Over the last week I have had the privilege of working with the very talented Year 12 Acting Pathway students at BOA (Birmingham Ormiston Academy). I was invited to deliver a workshop/masterclass on 'Acting to Microphone' as part of their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts Acting.

We got through a fair bit of theory but the focus was really on the 'doing' .. They all had the opportunity to work with scripts from two very different areas/styles of audio drama, firstly a scene featuring the Horrobin family from BBC Radio 4's 'The Archers' and a scene from the Audio Adventures of Doctor Who from Big Finish ... I was particularly impressed with the level of performances from the students.

BOA students performing to the microphone during the 'Acting to Microphone' workshop ...

It's been a terrific week working with these energetic, committed young performers exploring the joys and challenges of voice acting.

Going for Gold - Spiteful Puppet at the New York Radio Awards 2016 ...

I'm delighted to announce that SPITEFUL PUPPET have been nominated THREE TIMES in the NEW YORK FESTIVALS RADIO & AUDIO AWARDS which celebrate the world of radio programming on a global scale. Nominated programmes come from as far a field as Afghanistan to Australia and South Korea to the United Kingdom.

This year they have been nominated TWICE in the same category BEST AUDIO BOOK for the last two audio adventures of  the 'HOOD' series as well as picking up a nomination for BEST SPECIAL DRAMA for 'MAGNA CARTA: LEGACY', a one-off dramatisation recounting the origins of the Magna Carta which last year saw the 800th Anniversary of it's signing.

I am very proud to be have in all three audio dramas with wonderful casts across them all ... The nomination for 'MAGNA CARTA:LEGACY' will be particularly poignant for us all with the recent sad loss of 'BLAKE'S 7' star GARETH THOMAS who voiced the lead role of Elias of Dereham in the drama. If 'MAGNA CARTA:LEGACY' was to win, it would be surely a fitting tribute to a fine actor in one of his last roles ... You can listen to it here for free ...

BBC AUDIO DRAMA AWARD Winners - SPITEFUL PUPPET came away with TWO BRONZE MEDALS last time at the 2015 Awards. I'm sure this time they'll be going for gold!!

Sean goes undercover at 'Gadget Show Live 2016' ...

Sean Connolly and The Gadget Show presenter Ortis Deley at this years Gadget Show Live at Birmingham's NEC ...

The secret is out! I can now reveal my undercover role at this years GADGET SHOW LIVE at Birmingham's NEC ...

Over 11 LIVE SHOWS seen by over 30,000 PEOPLE I took on the role of a pretend audience member for a magical 'Versus Challenge' with presenters JASON BRADBURY and ORTIS DELEY and last years BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT runner up, magician JAMIE RAVEN ... Other celebrities involved with the live show included Scottish
singer-songwriter and musician NINA NESBIT who sang her new single 'Chewing Gum' ...

Sean Connolly with singer songwriter Nina Nesbitt and magician Jamie Raven part of the Gadget Show Live 2016 ...

If you're a regular viewer of
THE GADGET SHOW then you'll know that a staple part of the show is the 'Versus Challenge', when the presenters pitch themselves against a 'professional' and try and beat then at their own game using tech to win the day ...

For the live show, presenters Jason and Ortis took on the not inconsiderable magical talents of BGT's JAMIE RAVEN ...

As part of the current series, all 11 shows were recorded and then compiled into a special programme which went out last Friday 6th May 2016 at 7pm. The episode features behind the scenes footage including the low-down on my part in the live show. To see exactly what my involvement was you can head on over to the Channel 5 television catch up service Demand 5 or on-line at My5 https://www.my5.tv/the-gadget-show/season-23/episode-11 The whole episode is great fun (as is the long running series itself), but if you are at all interested in seeing what I got up to then you should fast forward to 34 MINUTES onwards ...

What a great fun week I had, The Gadget Show presenters Jason Bradbury, Ortis Deley, Amy Williams and John Bentley, in fact everyone at NORTH ONE TELEVISION really made me feel part of the team.
